Unveiling of Emilio Kruithof’s portrait of Halina Reijn
During the Gala of the Dutch Theater in the Amsterdam Stadsschouwburg, on Sunday September 14, the portrait that Emilio Kruithof made of actress Halina Reijn has been unveiled. This happened during the ceremony of the Theo d’Or and the Louis d’Or, which are the yearly theater awards for the best leading actress and actor in The Netherlands.
Halina Reijn won the Theo d’Or in 2013 for her role as Nora in the eponymous play. That gave her the right to pick a painter for making a portrait of her. As an admirer of Emilio’s work, she invited him to do so. Like always, the canvas was purchased after the creation by the Jan van der Vossen Foundation as a gift for the Stadsschouwburg, where it can be admired now, along with the portraits of the other former winners.
This year the Theo d’Or was won by actress Abke Haring for her role in Hamlet vs Hamlet. Jacob Derwig won the Louis d’Or for his role in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? They will be portrayed as well.
