Yoshimasa Tsuchiya • Infant Island • 7 March – 22 March, 2026
From Saturday 7 March until Sunday 22 March, 2026, Jaski Gallery presented Infant Island, a new solo exhibition by the Japanese sculptor Yoshimasa Tsuchiya. This was his fourth solo exhibition at the gallery.
Yoshimasa Tsuchiya is known for his finely hand-carved wooden sculptures that combine traditional Japanese craftsmanship with a poetic, contemporary imagination. For this exhibition, he focuses on infancy as the starting point of creation.
“‘Infant Island’ is the name of a fictional island featured in an old monster film which I have never seen”, Tsuchiya stated. “I first learned of it as a child, from a book introducing the film plots. The mysterious island’s name stirred my imagination. This is an exhibition of infants, the origin of creation.”
