Yoshimasa Tsuchiya – Infant Island
Jaski Gallery Amsterdam presents Infant Island, a new solo exhibition by the Japanese sculptor Yoshimasa Tsuchiya. This is his fourth solo exhibition at the gallery.
It is possible to visit the show from Saturday 7 March until Sunday 22 March.
The official opening will take place on Saturday 7 March, 4 – 7 pm.
Yoshimasa Tsuchiya is known for his finely hand-carved wooden sculptures that combine traditional Japanese craftsmanship with a poetic, contemporary imagination. For this exhibition, he focuses on infancy as the starting point of creation.
“Infant Island” is the name of a fictional island featured in an old monster film which I have never seen”, Tschiya says. “I first learned of it as a child, from a book introducing the film plots. The mysterious island’s name stirred my imagination. This is an exhibition of infants, the origin of creation.”
